Mischling was the German term used during the Third Reich for mixed race, partial Aryans, hybrids, particularly Jews.

Twin sisters Pearl and Stasha arrive in Auschwitz. In 1944 and immediately become part of the experimental population of twins known as “Mengele’s Zoo”. That winter, at a concert orchestrated by Mengele, Pearl disappears.  After liberation, Stasha sets off through the devastation of Poland to find Pearl and try and create a future.  A very moving, powerfully written story of grief and recovery that makes for an unforgettable novel.
