Ian Kershaw’s three decades of meticulous research on Nazi Germany has culminated in this volume, which brings his work together for the first time. It charts the destructive dynamic of the Nazi leadership, and the attitudes and behaviour of ordinary Germans as the persecution of Jews spiralled into genocide. The writings are in three sections: Hitler and the Final Solution, Popular Opinion and Jews inside Germany, and the Final Solution in Historiography, which deals with the growth of study of “everyday life” in the Third Reich.
